When Haley was training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a friend of hers brought a few friends to a session at the gym. One of those friends happened to be Carson’s roommate. He and Haley eventually met in September 2016, but it was just three days before Carson (who is in the Army) was schedule to leave for JRTC. They kept in touch via text and calls while Carson was away and had their first official date when he returned in late October. Haley’s parents were not about to let their daughter go anywhere with a young man without their approval, so their first date was at her family’s dinner table. Their relationship progressed and Carson planned a two-week trip to California so she could meet his family, asking her dad for her hand in marriage before they left.
Once in California, they had a great time visiting Carson’s family, taking in the scenery of the West Coast and exploring his hometown. While just outside Monterey, Carson asked a stranger to take their photo by the tide pools on the beach. Haley thought it was off since Carson doesn’t like photos, but she realized what was happening when he got down on one knee. As he pulled out the box, the ring went flying and landed in the pool. Carson was in such a panic he didn’t even get to completely pop the question. Luckily he grabbed the ring when he saw it glistening in the light and, after the pair settled down from laughing, Carson proposed and Haley said yes.
The couple said “I do” on a windy day at the Ocean Club at Grande Dunes. The weather and the ocean view were perfect for these two surfers. They said their vows overlooking the sea, followed by a reception featuring a gorgeous cake from Coccadotts and music by DJ Jake. Hannah Ruth Photography captured the beautiful day. When asked what they loved most about each other, Carson said of Haley that “he admired her because of her purity.” Haley said she loves Carson’s genuineness. “I love that he doesn’t let his ego get in the way of who he truly is.”
