Margaret and Daniel met at a chamber event. She is an ambassador for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, and there was a business after hours networking event held at EventWorks. Daniel was working the event and wasn’t even supposed to be there since he was filling in for a coworker. Good thing he was, since it was love at first sight for the pair. Daniel later told Margaret that he’d looked at his coworker and said, “You see that girl over there? I’m going to make her mine.” Needless to say, he was right!
After a little over two years together, the couple headed to Asheville to celebrate New Year’s Eve (which is also Margaret’s birthday). It was the first time in the area for both of them. As it was snowing, they went outside and Daniel got down on one knee and proposed. It was a couple of hours before the ball dropped, so they rang in the new year with a bang!
The May ceremony was held at Riverfront Park in Conway. Margaret always knew she wanted an outdoor wedding by the water, and the greenery, flowers and boats passing by on the Waccamaw River made a beautiful backdrop to say “I do.” The bride wore a dress from the Gown Boutique of Charleston, which fit her like a glove when she tried it on and required no alterations other than hemming. The dress was simple, yet elegant and classic with a stunning low back. Margaret’s sister served as her maid of honor and wore an ivory/champagne colored dress with a fun lacy back. The groom and honorary groomsmen, ushers, and Margaret’s dad donned blue Calvin Klein suits with feather bowties, a gift from Daniel and a great Southern touch. Since the couple opted for an honorary wedding party, the bridesmaids wore what they wanted, which was less stressful for everyone. East Emerald Photography captured the big day.
The reception was held at 104 Laurel, which is within walking distance of the park. Margaret loved the venue’s historic feel and rustic charm, with its hardwood floors and brick walls. The space was full of greenery and lighting, which enhanced the romantic theme of the day with different tones of green and white florals. Greenery was abundant and included palms, ferns, centerpieces, railing covers on the entryway and, the bride’s favorite, hanging hula hoops covered in floral tape and greenery.
An open bar featured local beers from Myrtle Beach and Columbia (where the bride is from), wine (the same brand Margaret drank at that business after hours event where she met Daniel) and liquor. Steel drums played during cocktail hour, which was a great beachy way to kick off the party. Art Catering provided the delicious food. The couple wanted guests to move around and mingle, so they opted for stations–a carving station with beef tenderloin and turkey, a mashed potato bar, a salad and veggie station, and a seafood display of shrimp and grits, crab cakes and bacon-wrapped scallops to offer some coastal and Southern fare for the out-of-town guests. Pink Pineapple Cakes created a simple and elegant cake for dessert.
Margaret’s favorite personal touch from the day was the memorial table at the entryway, which showcased gold-framed photos of her grandparents and Daniel’s grandfather, who have passed on. The couple wanted them to have a place in their wedding day and to really highlight them. Margaret also designed the “Welcome to Our Wedding” sign and created a matted frame that everyone could sign with a photo of her and Daniel in the middle. It makes a great wall feature in their home to remember their special day.
